UK Press Gazette’s 11th hour reprieve

BRITAIN’S iconic industry publication, the UK Press Gazette, has been saved just days before it was due to close its door.

It has been bought by British company Progressive Media from the Wilmington Group for an undisclosed sum.

Progressive Media is expanding its portfolio, having recently purchased the New Statesman, a left-wing publication.

There is no word on the fate of the five staff.

The UK Press Gazette, which was essential reading for its journalist job ads and industry news, has had three owners in five years.

Media reports say the deal does not include the UK Press Awards, which were run by the UK Press Gazette. Wilmington has retained ownership of these.
