Daily appoints 33-year-old editor

THE Queensland Times has appointed a new editor, while The West Australian could soon follow suit as speculation builds around Paul Armstrong’s successor.

Stuart Sherwin takes over at the Times as the paper celebrates its 150th year. Mr Sherwin, a 33-year-old Englishman, has worked on the Courier-Mail in Brisbane since moving to Australia in 2005.

Meanwhile, the Australian Financial Review has name-dropped Perth Today Tonight producer Mario D’Orazio as a candidate for the vacant job at The West.

Mr D’Orazio would represent another Seven Network connection at the publisher after Kerry Stokes, chairman of West Australian Newspapers and Seven, appointed Chris Wharton, a former Seven executive, as CEO of the company late last year.
