Newspapers chase iPhone audience

SINGAPORE’S Straits Times is the latest newspaper to reach out to the growing army of iPhone users by creating an application for the device.

Demand for Apple’s mobile platform of choice is growing in the city-state, prompting the newspaper to make their news available for free, anywhere, at any time, to the growing audience.

The Straits Times digital technology editor, Mr Yeong Ah Seng, said: “The iPhone is now popular with Singaporeans and we always go where the readers are.”

In a recent PANPA Podcast, Fairfax Media online editor-in-chief, Mike Van Niekerk, suggested the Sydney Morning Herald would be available on the iPhone some time in 2009.

The Straits Times application can be downloaded for free via Apple’s iTunes website.
