SMH branded with awards gong

THE Sydney Morning Herald’s success in the online arena has been recognised with smh.com.au winning Media Brand of the Year at B&T magazine’s annual awards.

The Fairfax-owned newspaper website beat out finalists Adshel, Lasoo.com.au, SBS and commuter newspaper mX in the brand category.

Pippa Leary, Fairfax Digital’s Managing Director – Media, said: “Winning B&T’s fiercely-contested Media Brand of the Year Award tops off a successful year for us here at Fairfax Digital.

“It is testimony to the enduring appeal of smh.com.au’s breaking stories to Sydneysiders and relevance to online news viewers across Australia.”

Judges commended the site’s appeal to a national audience – 22 percent penetration – despite being designed for a single city, a Fairfax statement said.
