INM cuts jobs from flagships

AROUND 90 staff will be removed from the London-based Independent and Sunday Independent titles by early next year.

The daily paper reported on its website that Irish-based mother company, Independent News and Media, will undertake the cost-cutting scheme in response to a slump in the advertising market.

The publisher is aiming to reduce massive debts by selling its 39.1 percent stake in ANZ media company APN News and Media.

The UK mastheads would seek efficiencies through technology and integration, and has considered combining backroom functions with rival group, Trinity Mirror, the report said.
