APN wants readers to switch off

APN Australian Publishing is asking readers to participate in a half-hour planned black-out next week as part of a campaign to reduce energy consumption.

The success of the event, branded the ‘Biggest Turn Off’, will be measured by Country Energy and published by the newspapers, which will reveal the areas that saved the most power.

One paper, The Northern Star, is encouraging readers to make their area “an environmental winner”, adding a competitive edge to the campaign.

In a similar vein as Fairfax Media’s Earth Hour event, APN regional newspapers from Coffs Harbour in northern NSW to Mackay in North Queensland will encourage readers and businesses to switch off all lights and non-essential appliances from 8pm-8:30pm next Wednesday 26 November.
